    PER208 describes the final departure of Jesus and his disciples from Galilee on October 3, AD 32, on their way to Jerusalem for the Feast of Sukkot. Following Luke's account, they pass through Samaria rather than taking the usual route along the Jordan. They arrive on Friday evening, October 8, teach on the Temple Mount, and Jesus gives his discourse on water at Hoshana Rabbah on October 13. The group will remain in the Jerusalem region for six months, until the Passover of April 1, AD 33.

    After Stephen's death, persecution scatters the believers from Jerusalem, and wherever they go, they proclaim the Gospel. Philip travels to Samaria and preaches there with power. Luke shows that this scattering fulfils the missionary programme announced by Jesus in Acts 1.8. Samaria, long separated from Israel, finally receives the Good News. Philip, one of the Seven, becomes the first officially designated evangelist in the New Testament.

    And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him.As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison.Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word.
