Discipline in the Church and forgiveness
Pericope 203 presents Jesus’ teaching on church discipline and forgiveness, at Capernaum in September AD 32. Matthew 18.15-22 and Luke 17.3-4 develop brotherly correction, the authority of the Church, communal prayer and unlimited forgiveness (seventy times seven). These themes form the foundation of a Christian ethic of relationships centered on reconciliation and divine mercy.
Matthew 18.21-22 (King James Version) :Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.King James Version (1769), domaine public — texte : eBible.org -

Parable of the king and the servant
The parable of the king and the servant (Mt 18.23-35), told in Capernaum in September 32, is unique to Matthew. It illustrates the vital importance of forgiveness by contrasting an immense debt of 10,000 talents cancelled by a merciful king with a small debt of 100 coins refused by the forgiven servant. The central teaching: those whom God forgives must in turn forgive, or they will lose the grace they received.

Instruction on stumbling blocks, forgiveness and faith
This article examines Jesus’ teachings on stumbling blocks, forgiveness and faith in Luke 17.1-6. Jesus urges the disciples to avoid causing spiritual falls and to forgive without limit. This instruction highlights communal responsibility and the disciples’ commitment to the kingdom of heaven.
Luke 17.1-6 (King James Version) :Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.King James Version (1769), domaine public — texte : eBible.org
