Comments

The question refers to the preceding in which Jesus mentions his return. Peter wants to know whether the message of this is intended only for the apostles or for everyone present, thus expressing a need for clarification.

Peter had understood that the Messiah Jesus was specifically addressing his disciples (the servants). However, since the entire crowd was not made up solely of disciples, Peter's question was particularly relevant.

As mentioned previously, the return of the Messiah Jesus concerns all the faithful, that is, the Church. Consequently, it is legitimate to wonder about the fate awaiting those who are not disciples.

The Messiah Jesus does not answer this question directly. However, he had already provided indications by encouraging people to seek the kingdom of God. This implied that those who did not make it a priority would not have access to it.

The Messiah Jesus speaks once again and presents a second intended to clarify the answer to Peter's question.
