Comments

The healing of the man in the drew an enormous crowd. All the sick people of Capernaum are now pressing forward outside Simon and Andrew's house, without intervention from the Roman authorities. The whole town had gathered at the door, Mark reports, conveying a memory of Simon Peter's.

Were they all healed? In any case, Mark tells us that many people were. Nightfall forces the inhabitants to return to their homes. This day marks the beginning of an extraordinary movement. Confronted with the work of Jesus the Messiah, all these inhabitants could only wonder, for no human being has the ability to perform such a deed.

We observe that Jesus the Messiah possessed unquestionable authority over demons. They recognised him as the Son of God and submitted to his command. This authority is also evident in the pericope PER057, where he orders the demons to remain silent. The Gospel writers emphasise these acts of deliverance, suggesting that such possessions were relatively frequent at the time.
