Comments

Luke thus recorded two testimonies, this woman's confirming Simeon's words. We note that some Jews were awaiting this deliverance. Many hoped that this new King would drive the invader out of Israel, but these two witnesses had an entirely different, more spiritual vision.

It should be noted that the Prophets' writings had enabled these people to understand that the promise of a coming King, the Messiah, was being fulfilled before their eyes. All these testimonies were a of encouragement to Mary and Joseph. Anna publicly proclaimed that the Messiah was named Jesus of Nazareth, so all the Jews visiting the Temple heard her message. Simeon also confirmed this news.
