The Torah refers to the first five books of the Hebrew Bible — Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy — which form the foundation of the Jewish faith and an essential reference for understanding Christianity. These texts recount the origins of the world, the calling of the patriarchs, the liberation from Egypt and the establishment of the covenant between God and his people.
The articles gathered around this theme address questions as varied as the composition and literary sources of the Pentateuch, the formation of the Tanakh, the Yahwist, Elohist and Priestly traditions, and also the biblical chronology of the foundational accounts. They also explore the ten plagues of Egypt, the rituals and laws handed down to Moses, and the structuring role of the Exodus in the history of salvation.
This path appeals both to the reader curious about biblical history and to the one who wishes to understand the cultural and religious roots on which the Gospels and the whole New Testament rest.
