Tischendorf's Discovery
In 1844, Constantin von Tischendorf discovered ancient parchments at Saint Catherine's Monastery on Mount Sinai that were destined to be burned. After three journeys, in 1859 he identified and recovered the Codex Sinaiticus, one of the oldest complete manuscripts of the Greek Bible (4th century), containing the Old and New Testaments as well as the Epistle of Barnabas and the Shepherd of Hermas. This major discovery profoundly influenced biblical textual criticism.

The Codex Leningradensis
The Codex Leningradensis, dated to around AD 1008, is the oldest complete manuscript of the Hebrew Bible. Preserved in Saint Petersburg, it uses the Masoretic text and Tiberian vocalization. Based on the work of Aaron ben Moshe ben Asher, it serves as the foundation of the Biblia Hebraica and the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia. Its exceptional state of preservation makes it an essential primary source for biblical studies and for the reconstruction of the Aleppo Codex.
